Berlin has to be one of our favourite Cities in Europe! The place is so diverse with culture, history, art and incredible parties. Most of you will know that Berlin is steeped in history. World war museums, monuments and memories can be found all over the city, they offer a wonderful insight into what our ancestors were involved in, too make the world what it is for us today. The Brandenburg Gate (Berlin page image), Checkpoint Charlie and Holocaust Memorial are 3 of these great historical monuments to visit. Before Germany was combined into one country, the famous Berlin Wall separated the city and the country. There are references and museums dedicated to this around the city. Art is huge here too, with many gallaries offering works from all over the world and various eras. Street art can be seen all over the city, vibrant colour, design and execution make these huge canvases look amazing. In recent history, Berlin’s history isn’t so dark and war stricken. Dance music (mainly Techno) and clubbing here are legendary. If your looking to party, you are looking at the right place. World renowned clubs such as Berghain and Watergate, are open all night, so great places to have a good party. In the spring and summer time, the banks of the River Spree are transformed into urban beaches. These make great places to chill with a few drinks on a lovely, sunny day. So in a nutshell Berlin offers your group . .. . .Well everything you could want on an urban weekend away!
This 'dive bar' is open 24 hours, offers cheap drinks and hasn't been infiltrated by many tourists yet, so keeps its local Berlin Charm. A recipe for a fantastic venue. The w4 hour license make this place popular for after parties, as well as a pre lunch beer. This may not be your cup of tea, so panic not, the usual hours still apply. A gritty venue that has not been filled with fake bells and whistles, modern decor or fancy televisions. A proper Berlin pub, with real Berlin locals at the bar, who will welcome you in for authentic, friendly drinks!
Summer in Berlin's parks, can be as fun as a beach in the Caribbean. Our pick of the bunch is Prater Garten. Established in 1837, this place is the oldest beer garden in Berlin! Picnic style, bench tables provide seating for 600 people. The gardens are full of mature chestnut trees and lovely green grass. The beer of choice is the locally brewed Prater Pils. But if that isn't your thing, then Prater Garten offers plenty of other German beers, wines and other tipples. The beer hall also offers perfect snacks to have with your drink in the outdoors. Bratwurst (German Sausage) and Wiener Schnitzel (breaded pork escalope) are just 2 of a menu of authentic German delights. The indoor beer hall is on hand just in case you take the British weather to Berlin with you.
A question for you? Are you open minded and not scared to see something different? If the answer is yes to both of these questions, head for an evening drink in Barbie's. You will most certainly have your eyes opened. The glowing, neon, pink sign and graffiti-ed shop front are just the start. You will step into something a little different. Barbie Deinhoff's has a huge mix of clientele, from artists and business people, to drag queens, latex and even gimp masks. Do not be put off by this alternative bar, the atmosphere is fantastic, safe and inviting. You will welcomed and looked after by Lena Braun, drag queen and owner of the Barbie themed boozer. Barbie Deinhoff's is one of Berlins top places to drink in plenty of press and with plenty of people. Drinks are cheap and happy hour lasts from 4pm - 9pm, go on give it a go, we dare you!
This literally translates to 'Blood Sausage Maker'. NUCO Urban is based in sunny Manchester. Lancashire is on our doorstep and one of their famous delicacies is black pudding. We like black pudding and heard that Blutwurst is German black pudding. Therefore had to take it upon ourselves to check out the 'best in Berlin' (as dubbed by locals). What we came across was a butchers shop with deli/restaurant attached. Now we now that blood sausage doesn't sound super appetizing, but regardless of this, you have to give Butwurstmanufactur a try. There is so much more than blood sausage. German variety sausages (similar to the ones you usually get at home), cooked meats, sauerkraut and homemade mustard, make for an amazing meal for meat lovers. The quality is fantastic, the recipes and location have stayed the same for over 100 years! This Berlin institution is definitely worth a visit!

In 1907, the state swimming pool opened in Berlin. This was called Stattbad. Thiis is now the super cool venue of the Stattbad nightclub. The original building was rebuilt in the 60's after damage from WW2, but stayed open as a pool until 2001. Now it is an amazing spaced used for exhibitions, arts and a permanent nightclub. This establishment has been used many times for boiler room sessions, therefore bringing in the worlds biggest DJ's. A place like no other, Stattbad's original pool is now empty and this forms the dance floor. Revelers dance the night away in the sunken empty pool, with the DJ playing above. the space is incredible and another club in Berlin offering a different experience within a nightclub.
Salon zur Wilden Renate
Dancing the night away in a nightclub like a circus? Surely not . . . Well the name of this place gives the atmosphere away a little . . .Wild! The outside area is amazing in summer, with large terraces and outdoor spaces. The inside of the venue is full of crazy and wacky decorations and kitsch colour schemes. The main attraction for this place though is the massive, real, Labyrinth! Just like something from the movie. Don't get lost in here though, or the nightclub will have you forever! You can even return your glasses and bottles, and be refunded in cash. "Back to the bar"!
You don't get much more famous than Bergheim. The home of Techno music and one of Berlins most famous venues. We have to warn straight away that this is sometimes tricky to get into. There are no dress codes, time policies or capacity problems really, just at the discretion of the doormen! However, regardless of this, when you do get into Bergheim, you will not be disapointed. An attack on the senses as soon as you see it. Set in a huge converted power station, Full of light shows, rediculously powerful sound systems and smoke machines, Bergheim will leave you speechless.
