Chamonix Ski Transfers
What type of ski transfer do I need to get to Chamonix?
Chamonix is located just beneath Mont Blanc in the Haute-Savoie department of France. It has a prestigious history that is deeply steeped in snowsports being the host of the first Winter Olympics held in 1924. It is one of the Alps most sought after ski resorts and holiday destinations. There are no direct flights or trains that take you to and from Chamonix so your best bet of reaching the resort ( if you aren't driving ) is to arrange a transfer. There are a few transfer options available to choose from which can help you decide on what type of ski transfer would best suit you. A private transfer is perfect for visitors to Chamonix who prefer to travel exclusively with their travel group ( family or friends ) and so as to stay within their family bubble. A shared transfer is preferred by visitors who are ok with sharing a transfer vehicle with other skiers who, in most cases, are landing in the same arrival airport. This is a less expensive option to a private transfer as with a shared transfer, the cost is split between the passengers, however, it is also a great opportunity to meet new people and possibly make some new friends who share a similar passion for skiing. Private transfers can also be arranged from smaller non-commercial airports within the area of train station pickups.
What airports can I transfer from to get to Chamonix?
You can arrange a transfer to Chamonix from most airports in the French Alps, however due to the proximity to the ski resort there are three airports that would be most advisable and recommended which are Geneva Airport, Annecy-Haute-Savoie-Mont Blanc Airport and the Lyon-Saint Exupéry International Airport based in Lyon and more commonly known as Lyon airport. If you are flying from abroad, Geneva airport would by far be the easiest option of the lot. Located just under 90 kilometres from Chamonix , it is only a 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from the resort, making it the shortest commute between the three suggested airports. The Geneva airport is also an international airport which benefits from a lot of international flight connections, making it easy to connect from most major city airports across the world. Lyon airport is one France's largest airports and also has multiple international connections but due to its location over 220 kilometres away from Chamonix, with at least a 2 hour drive, a Geneva to Chamonix transfer would appear the preferred option. The Annecy-Haute-Savoie-Mont Blanc Airport is a small airport located in the Haute-Savoie area. Located only about 90 kilometres away from the ski resort, it takes just as much time to transfer from Geneva to Chamonix as it would from the Mont Blanc airport. However, due to its size, it does not receive as many international flight connections as do Lyon and Geneva. It could be a suitable option if you were flying to Chamonix locally, from other parts of France, however, the majority of international visitors would be advised to transfer Geneva to Chamonix if possible.
